Jhala Nath Khanal was 34th Prime Minister of Nepal. He was born on May 20, 1950. He took his office in February 2011. He holds the positions of Chairman of the Communist Party of Nepal
(Unified Marxist–Leninist, CPN UML) and Leader of the Constituent Assembly Parliamentary Party of the CPN (UML).Jhala Nath Khanal was born in Sakhejung as the seventh son of Father Pung Nath and Mother Madhu Mata Khanal in the Ilam District. Jhala Nath is married to Ravi Laksmee Chitrakar and they have a son, Nirbhik Chitrakar Khanal.He was entered into politics in the year 1969 (2025 BS). Khanal was a member of the Communist Party of Nepal (Marxist-Leninist), and was its General Secretary from 1982 to 1986. Later, he became member of the CPN (UML).
He has studied upto graduation majoring Political Science in Tribhuvan University.Khanal was Minister of Information and Communication in the 1997 in coalition government. Jhala Nath was elected from ILam-1 constituency in the 2008 Constituent Assembly election. He was General Secretary of CPN (UML) from 2008 to February 2009 and was elected as the Chairman of the CPN (UML) on February 16, 2009.
